Halal and kosher snack options

Dietary rules add a layer of reading to every snack, and imported food makes it harder. The good news is that plenty of snacks fit halal or kosher needs, once you know what to look for. Here is a simple run through.
What the labels actually mean
Halal and kosher are different systems with different rules, but both come down to checking ingredients and, often, certification. A halal logo or a kosher symbol on the pack is the easy signal. When it is not there, you have to read the ingredients yourself.
The main things to watch are gelatin, which often comes from pork, and certain animal derived enzymes or fats. Gelatin hides in gummies and marshmallows more than you would expect. A surprising number of otherwise innocent sweets fail on that one ingredient.
What is usually safe
Fruit candy, many crisps, rice snacks, and most plant based treats are fine. The trouble spots are the chewy, gelatine heavy sweets and anything with a meat flavour. When we build a box for someone, we check those first.

Sealed, simple ingredient snacks are your friend here. A bag of plain salted crisps is low risk. A bag of sour gummies is where you stop and read.
How to shop with confidence
The honest advice is to check each item, not assume. Labels change, recipes change, and a snack that was fine last month might not be fine now. If you are buying for someone else, do the checking so they can just eat without worrying.
If you need a hand, reach out and we can point you to the items that fit. Browse the snacks page and build a box around what passes the label test, and check the gift boxes for a ready made starting point.
