Shipping food gifts across the EU, explained

The good news first: sending food gifts between EU countries is one of the easier kinds of shipping. The single market means no routine customs duties, and shelf stable snacks rarely need special permits. There are still a few rules worth knowing, but none of them are scary.
Shelf stable is your friend
The biggest distinction is between food that needs chilling and food that does not. Chocolate, crisps, candy, hot sauce, and dry noodles are shelf stable, so they travel at room temperature with no special handling. That is almost everything we sell, and it is why we can ship across borders without a cold chain.

Label clearly, in plain words
Customs staff and carriers read labels, not your intentions. We list contents plainly on the invoice, with quantities and a realistic value. A box that says snacks, assorted is more likely to be opened than one that says what is actually inside. Clear labelling keeps things moving.
Watch for national quirks
The EU sets the broad rules, but individual countries still have their own rhythms. Some restrict fresh meat or dairy, others slow down around national holidays. For packaged snacks, none of this changes much. It mostly changes timing.

Frequently asked questions
Do food gifts need special paperwork inside the EU?
Generally no. A clear invoice is enough for shelf stable snacks.
Can every snack ship to every EU country?
Almost all of ours can. Fresh dairy and meat are the main things that run into restrictions.
How much does EU shipping cost?
It depends on weight and distance. Check delivery for current rates.
